5-Day Tsavo Safari Itinerary (Nairobi – Voi – Tsavo East & West – Return)

Day 1: Nairobi Pick-up → SGR Train → Voi (Overnight Stop)

Your journey begins with a pick-up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning or early afternoon, depending on your SGR train schedule.

You will be transferred to the Nairobi SGR Terminus for your train journey to Voi. The ride offers scenic views of the Kenyan countryside and a smooth transition into the coastal safari region.

Upon arrival at Voi Station, your driver/guide will meet you and transfer you to your pre-arranged accommodation in Voi.

Evening:

  • Check-in at lodge/hotel in Voi
  • Relax after travel
  • Dinner and overnight stay

Day 2: Voi → Tsavo East National Park (Full Day Safari Begins)

After early breakfast, depart for Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s largest and oldest parks, famous for its red-dust elephants and vast open plains.

Activities:

  • Game drive en route into the park
  • Visit Aruba Dam (excellent wildlife viewing)
  • Spot elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and birdlife
  • Picnic lunch inside the park or lodge lunch

Evening:

  • Continue game drive until late afternoon
  • Exit the park and return to Voi accommodation
  • Dinner and overnight stay

Day 3: Full Day Tsavo East Safari

Another full immersion day in Tsavo East for deeper wildlife exploration.

Activities:

  • Early morning game drive (best wildlife viewing time)
  • Explore different park sectors for variety of sightings
  • Photography stops across savannah plains and riverbeds
  • Picnic lunch inside the park

Afternoon:

  • Continued game drive
  • Return to Voi hotel/lodge in the evening

Dinner & overnight in Voi

Day 4: Tsavo West National Park Day Trip

After breakfast, depart for Tsavo West National Park, known for its dramatic landscapes, volcanic hills, and Mzima Springs.

Activities:

  • Game drive through volcanic terrain (Shetani Lava flows)
  • Visit Mzima Springs (clear natural springs with hippos & crocodiles)
  • Chance to see rhinos in protected areas
  • Scenic photography stops

Lunch:

  • Picnic or lodge lunch inside Tsavo West

Afternoon:

  • Final game drive
  • Exit park and return to Voi hotel for overnight stay

Dinner and rest

Day 5: Voi → SGR Train → Nairobi

After breakfast, check out from your Voi accommodation.

You will be transferred to Voi SGR Station for your return train to Nairobi.

Upon arrival in Nairobi:

  • Pick-up from SGR terminus
  • Transfer to your hotel or airport drop-off

End of safari.

  • 1 Night: Voi (arrival)
  • 2 Nights: Tsavo East exploration
  • 1 Night: Tsavo West excursion base in Voi
  • Train travel both ways via SGR (Nairobi ↔ Voi)
